Roopsha Samanta is a New York–based photographer and computer scientist. After two decades in academia, she came to the city for a summer hiatus in 2023 and began walking its streets with a camera, seeing the world anew. What began as a temporary pause evolved into a lasting relationship with both the city and photography.

Moving between street and fine art photography, she combines observational photography with conceptual inquiry. Through light, shadow, reflection, movement, self-portraiture, and text, she explores the ambiguous thresholds between inner and outer worlds, presence and absence, and reality and imagination. 

She is a 2026 LensCulture Street Photography Awards finalist with her series, I Too Am Untranslatable, and her  work has been exhibited in several international group shows including the Women Street Photographers exhibitions in Menorca (2026) and New York (2025), the Dublin Street Photography Festival (2026), the ANARCHY Exhibition (2026) in Tokyo, Sardinia, Versailles, and Northampton, and the Pure Street Photography Awards in Mumbai (2025). Her work will also be exhibited in upcoming shows in Rome, Paris, and Tokyo.
